HISTORY

He was born in Chimer, Megam the second son to a shoemaker, and a maidservant. They weren't well off, and his older brother was going to take over what little business they had repairing shoes for nobles who'd come to relax in the layed back setting. His father started saving as soon as Norman was born to send him to a temple to become one of the clergy.

Growing up in Chimer, Norman was exposed to a somewhat more liberal viewpoint. After all, no one wants to preach the harder doctrines to people who came to relax, do they? Norman's father made sure he attended every service, but didn't stay himself, citing he was too busy and needed the time to finish up important work. This allowed Norman to talk to the wide range of people who were attending the services without anyone to hold him back.

Eventually, Norman was sent to become an acolyte. He was sent to a church far away from any city; a small one that served several farming villages in its area. It was a relatively poor area, and could only afford to keep a few priests. One of the priests there was roughly twice his age, and took him under his wing as a mentor. This mentor had different ideas than a lot of other priests though, and soon filled Norman's mind with things that sounded an awful lot like heresy. It made a lot of sense though.

His service to the church ended one night when his mentor found out the the church had sent investigators to see to the reports of heresy. He was up, and out, and before that night he had no idea just how many people his mentor had spread this new doctrine to. If he didn't know better, he could have sworn they were a group of bandits, but all of them followed the beliefs his mentor had layed out, and some of them were even educated. They called themselves footsoldiers of a new church, The True Dragon Army. They worked underground, and survived in the jungles where it was impossibly difficult for the church to eliminate them.

Through it all, he helped his mentor expand on the scriptures, and other scribe work. His talents came along very well, and for years he served as his mentor's right hand. Together they started writing new magic tomes. They even went out to other villages to gain new followers. The amount of close calls he's had spreading the word of his faith is quite numerous, and he's been very fortunate in his many years.

A few years ago his mentor passed away very suddenly, and he took over as leader of The True Dragon Army. Lately things have been looking very good for the group. They have settled down a few day's ride from Mamaura, allowing them the ability to reach passing travellers with their message. The Talons of the Dragons, a group that had been particularly active in rooting them out, have been dealt at least a glancing blow by the church, allowing them at least a little more breathing room for the time being.

PERSONALITY

Contrary to what you'd think about a person who is in a leadership position, Norman could care less about politics. He is a generally open person who looks down on those who would try to put on a fake face for the purpose of making themselves look good. The will of the Dragons is far more important to him than pleasing people.

He is commited to furthering thunder magic, which has been the focus of most of his tomes. Both he and his mentor had a love of it, and while writing them is not a fast or easy process, it's his labour of love. He can often be found enjoying the frequent showers the jungle affords the group, practicing using lighting magic in a more primal setting.

While not everyone would agree, most find him a competant leader of an often times stressful group of people to lead. He has a streak of being openly opportunistic when it came to securing the well-being of the group, even before he started running it. The number of life or death situations he has been in has taught him to always be careful when doing the work of the Dragons.

He has for a long time held himself aloof from most anyone younger than twenty. Youth bothers him far too much, and he doesn't appreciate reminders of those problemed times in his life. To prevent himself from doing and saying things he'd regret, he simply keeps them at bay as much as possible.

He has an affinity for dragons, keeping one white dragon he liberated when it was still young. Like his mentor before him, he doesn't believe dragons should be used like a common horse. He has a distaste for dragonriders that extends to most of his order. He believes they are a creature akin to humans, and not something to by used as a ride.

APPEARANCE

He stands shorter than most men he knows, but not overly so. He keeps his hair long, and he has a moustache which he keeps trimmed well when possible. He wears simple linens except when there is a formal occasion. He never really looks like a man who would lead a heretical movement.

When fighting, he does wear armour fitting his station. A heavy breastplate over crimson robes affords him quite a bit of protection, although he tends to stay behind his more physically adept brethren while casting magic.
