In theory, this shouldn't work. Though perhaps you could call it a half-attempt at something much more grand. In combat you're often presented with the problem that you have to cast at several targets. It leads to important choices of how you will spend the time you have to chant, because you will only get the chance to send off a certain number of spells before your enemy is in too close.
If you have mastered the basic tomes however and you're often casting heavier things, you should theoretically be able to handle the draw of several lighter ones. The problem is that even with your more efficient cast times, you will still come up short. Instead, the focus should be on a spell that allows you to continually cast once you've begun chanting. If you're very good at the casting side, you should already be able to do this. However, the tomes are not designed with that in mind, and no matter how versatile they are, they could still be optimised for use as a knife rather than a sword.
It's not the rarest of suggestions, but I've never seen any serious work done on it.
